Geotechnics
Limited is a Company which specialises in designing and conducting geotechnical
or geoenvironmental site investigations and providing geotechnical or
geoenvironmental consulting throughout the United Kingdom. Overseas work
is also undertaken.
Investigations into the geology and previous use of a
site to obtain a knowledge of its engineering, environmental
and contamination characteristics are a fundamental part of the
planning of safe, economic and sutainable future use of that site,
be it for commerical development,
residential extensions or public sector projects.
The Company has been certified by Constructionline and listed on
the UK Register of Qualified Construction Services and in addition we
have
Link-Up
certification
from
Railtrack allowing us to undertake projects on railway sites.

Site Investigation
Field techniques ranging from simple trial excavations to sophisticated
in situ testing are used to obtain the data required for design and the
Company's knowledge of the capabilities and characteristics of a wide
range of techniques and of the logistics of the investigation process
is available to help to formulate investigation designs. Whatever technique
employed, it is always under the direction and supervision
of Geotechnics' qualified and experienced geotechnical engineers.
Geotechnical Laboratory testing is undertaken in the Company's UKAS
accredited laboratories in Coventry. Contamination testing is undertaken
in accredited, approved laboratories.

Analysis and Reporting
The value of any information is in its relevance to the proposed development
and the way it is interpreted. The Company's peer-reviewed high quality
reports, which are also available as electronic
pdf
documents
if
required and the geotechnical data can be provided in
the industry standard AGS format to facilitate transfer
of investigation data to client's own geotechnical database and analysis
systems.

Geotechnics' team of engineers is widely
experienced in the application of geotechnical engineering principles
and is able to call on extensive IT and library resources.
Its Geoenvironmental department provides advice in relation to the
assessment of brownfield sites and land which may be contaminated and
on means of remediation, where appropriate.

Brownfield Sites
A Brownfield site is typically land that has previously been developed, usually
for industrial purposes, and frequently there is pressure from the planning
system to prioritise their development. They present significant opportunities
but
they have to be judged in the context of liabilities. Brownfield Sites can
have high value in terms of:
- Availability of communications
- Proximity to existing infrastructure and employment centres
- Meeting planning guideline criteria
- Protection of greenfield sites

Contamination
In terms of current legislation, land is deemed to be contaminated where
substances on or within it are at such a concentration that there is a
significant possibility of significant harm to:
- Humans
- Controlled Waters
- The Environment
- Buildings or Services
Geotechnics Limited uses the currently approved Source - Pathway - Receptor
methodology in combination with current UK exposure models such as CLEAUK
to assess contamination risks and suggest possible remediation methods.

Solutions
Geotechnics Environmental offers combined geotechnical and geoenvironmental
expertise in assessment of brownfield sites for development. Potential contaminants,
sensitive targets and critical pathways are investigated and where necessary
remediation strategies prepared as appropriate to development proposals to
take into account engineering considerations.
